Crushed Rock Products for Every Project
Our crushed rock products are trusted for heavy-construction jobs and home projects alike.
Crushed Rock Products Overview
Landscape Materials
Our Trail Rock products include ¼” Minus and 3/8″ Minus. They compact well to provide sturdy, solid garden paths and trails. ¼” Minus contains a large amount of fines, which allows it to pack down into a dense, concrete-like surface. 3/8″ Minus by comparison is more coarsely graded.
¼” Minus is also a great base material for pathway pavers.
Landscape Gravel can be used as an accent in garden borders or even as a substitute for wood mulch.
Building Materials
Top Course (5/8” Minus) and Base Course (1¼” Minus) can be used for gravel driveways and are frequently used in the construction industry as base materials for paving. We also make permeable versions of these products for pervious concrete and asphalt projects.
Quarry Spalls provide a solid base for muddy roads and building foundations.
Chip Rock is a sturdy product for chip sealing. We also offer several varieties of Armorstone®, an overlay aggregate that is used across the U.S. to add friction to roads.
We make several types of AREMA-spec Ballast for railway construction. In addition to the Destination Point Defiance rail bypass, we are providing materials for the Sound Transit light-rail extension. This includes the first-ever railway tracks to traverse a floating bridge.
Track and Field Construction
Our Permeable Aggregates are used throughout the state as a base for synthetic turf fields, including the Seattle Sounders training fields. They provide a well-draining base for pervious concrete and asphalt roadways as well.
Crushed Recycled Concrete
Washington Rock reclaims concrete from job sites and crushes it for reuse. We make 1¼” Minus Recycled Concrete and 2″—4″ Concrete Quarry Spalls.

Determining the Right Product for Your Project
Our blog article has suggestions on picking the right product for driveway and landscape projects. It visually compares product sizes, explains the differences between clean gravel and minus gravel, and describes the basic uses of each product.
Quarried Basalt Versus Crushed River Rock
Most of our crushed rock products are mined and processed at our basalt quarry, Kapowsin Quarry. Our quarry products are angular and fractured. They are a unique blue-gray color that we call Kapowsin Blue. The blue color is especially pronounced when our products are wet, such as after rainfall.
The coloring of our quarry rock varies depending on the vein of rock being mined and can even vary between each load. Gravel may include flecks of rusty orange, bronze, white, and green. Iron pyrite and crystalline structures may appear on some pieces.
We also make some crushed rock products like ¾” Landscape Gravel (Country Style) at King Creek Pit. Our pit-sourced products are made from crushing rounded rock, resulting in a fractured gravel product that may have some rounded edges. Like a Pacific Northwest streambed, this rock includes a variety of geological sources. This results in a mix with a wide array of earthy colors, including gray, mauve, red, blue, white, orange, and brown.
