Our Community

Washington Rock participates in community events and gives back to the community through scholarships and donations to worthy causes.

Public Events

    • Dozer Day
At Dozer Day, kids can try out real dozers, excavators, and more with the help of a professional operator. Each year, we host a themed booth with an activity for kids. In 2021, we created a castle-themed booth called Fort Rock where kids could paint and decorate rocks. Proceeds benefit local charities. Visit the Dozer Day website for ticket information.

Check out a video recap below.

    • Lake Kapowsin Day

Lake Kapowsin Day is an annual celebration of the heritage and biodiversity of Lake Kapowsin. Hosted by Friends of Lake Kapowsin (FOLK) and the Aquatic Reserves division of the Department of Natural Resources, Lake Kapowsin Day is held mid-year and includes activities and educational displays.

Washington Rock typically hosts an activity like rock painting. Washington Rock’s Kapowsin Quarry operation can be seen from the Department of Fish and Wildlife boat ramp at the northeast end of Lake Kapowsin.

Check out a video recap of the last Lake Kapowsin Day celebration below.

    • Meeker Days

Meeker Days is an annual summer festival honoring the first mayor of Puyallup and Oregon Trail pioneer Ezra Meeker. Washington Rock sponsors a giant sandbox featuring our play sand (fairway top dressing sand).

Check out a video recap below.

    • The Puyallup Farmer’s Market

The Puyallup Farmer’s Market is one of the largest of its kind in the South Puget Sound region. Washington Rock Quarries sponsors the market and hosts a booth at various times during the market season.

Sponsorships

Washington Rock sponsors events throughout the year, including the Swing for a Soldier golf tournament, events and golf tournaments for the Western Washington Golf Course Superintendents Association (WWGCSA), and events and golf tournaments for the Northwest Turfgrass Association (NTA). We also regularly sponsor public school sports teams.

Check out a video recap of the WWGCSA service project we participated in and donated to.

Giving Back Program

We strive to give back to important causes such as American Lake Veterans Golf Course, the construction of Gratzer Park in Orting, and the annual Nisqually Land Trust auction. We actively look for opportunities to support individuals and organizations in need.

Scholarships

Washington Rock offers scholarships each year to Orting High School seniors attending technical college or trade school.

The Wilson, Chism, and Foster Memorial Scholarships honor three team members who made important contributions to our company. They are named for operations manager J. R. Wilson, quality control assistant Steve A. Chism, and laborer Randy C. Foster. We hope that those who receive these scholarships will use these funds to enhance their skillsets, opening doors to future opportunities.
