Chip Rock
Chip Rock
Product Description
Fine chips are a gravel made from crushed quarry rock. This product is made up of rock pieces up to 3/8″ in diameter. Our rock chips are screened to remove fines, washed to remove as much sediment as possible, dried, and stored under cover.
Product Applications
Fine chips are used to top commercial chip-sealing projects. They act as an anti-skid wearing course on top of asphalt overlays.

About Chip Rock
Chip rock is made up of small, clean, and evenly graded crushed rocks used in chip-sealing projects. On a chip sealing project, the road is sprayed with a thinned-out asphalt mixture, which is immediately topped with chip rock. Rollers then roll over the treated road surface, compact the chips, and embed them into the asphalt. After the asphalt cures over a few days, the remaining loose gravel is swept away.
WSDOT explains that chip sealing is a cheaper alternative to pavement overlays and helps decrease surface glare, fills and seal cracks, prevents water penetration, and provides skid resistance.
