PRODUCTS: Sports Field
Washington Rock provides essential aggregates for sports field construction and maintenance, including topsoil, permeable aggregates, E-Layer stone, and infill sand.
From Federal Way High School to CenturyLink Field, our aggregates have made their way into the best fields in the region. We offer products for the construction and maintenance of both natural grass and synthetic turf fields.
Our infill sand is combined with other materials to stabilize fields and cushion gameplay.
Our infill sand is typically spread over fields along with a springy component, such as crumb-rubber pellets, coconut husk, or cork. The infill mixture acts like a topsoil for athletic fields. When a new athletic field is installed, infill is spread onto the athletic field, filling the space between the synthetic grass fibers in order to support the fibers, stabilize the field, and cushion the playing surface.
A typical field contains over 150–375 tons of infill mixed with other materials.
Our infill sand is clean and bone dry.
Our Infill Sand goes through a rigorous wash cycle and is then kiln dried in our bagging and drying plant.
We now offer Cork Sand for synthetic turf fields filled with cork .
Our Cork Sand is a larger grain size than our traditional Infill Sand, leading to better drainage.
Our permeable aggregates and E-layer stone help improve the performance and lifespan of synthetic turf fields.
Synthetic turf fields need to be replaced after 7–10 years, but a well-constructed base can last up to 3–4 times as long as the field. Our permeable aggregates and E-layer stone have the qualities needed to create long-lasting foundations.
Underneath the synthetic grass, an elastic layer (E-layer) made up of rubber, stone, and epoxy binder boosts shock absorption and field drainage. E-layer manufacturers trust our E-layer stone to assist with these important functions.
A permeable aggregate base underneath the E-layer drains water from the field. Our permeable aggregates are made to spec and have been used up and down the coast to build field foundations.
Washington Rock also manufactures soil for fields.
Our rootzone mix is a custom blend of sand and organic materials. We can also customize the specifications of the mix based on the architect’s or engineer’s requirements. We have a large variety of sands to choose from. We can also add the desired amount of organic additive, ranging from compost to peat moss, to achieve the correct end product. These mixes are made to order for each individual customer or project.
Our top dressing sand products can be used after the aerating and dethatching process to promote drainage.
We are proud members of the American Sports Builders Association.
