Description

The Port Maritime Center is a mixed use building that will include business offices and classrooms. Washington Rock worked with contractor Titan Earthworks to provide construction aggregates for the project. Read more on the Port of Tacoma website.

Highlights

Washington Rock's gravel borrow replaced poor-quality soil on site. Our crushed rock was also used in a vibroflotation machine to build over 1,443 stone columns, each measuring 30" in diameter and 30 feet deep. The Port of Tacoma explained in a social media post: "The columns provide a pathway for groundwater to drain during seismic events, preventing the soil from liquifying.

Our base course was then used to create a foundation for building construction.

Additionally, our riprap and streambed rock was used to create a barrier along the shoreline.
