A side-dump truck dumps out a load of 7-Man Quarry Rock into a sandy ditch (preventing breakage). A worker in construction apparel operates a drill as it drills through an oversized piece of quarried rock. A Hitachi excavator lowers a log-and-rock device down the slope of a riverbank. Logs anchored to oversized quarry rocks line the base of a burlap-covered shoreline next to a river. A Hitachi excavator lowers a log-and-rock device onto the base of a riverbank while workers in a fishing boat wait in the river below. Workers secure the lines on a log-and-rock device while an operator watches from the controls of an excavator. A network of logs anchored to oversized quarry rocks runs along a riverbank. A rocky riverbank appears to be under construction. The river can be seen below, and an excavator can be seen in the distance. A row of logs is anchored to oversized pieces of quarried rock and rest in the water next to a riverbank. An enormous quarry boulder is anchored to a log in the river next to a riverbank.

Description

Sandy Cove Park is just upriver from Snoqualmie Falls and steps away from historic downtown Snoqualmie. The park is a popular place to relax and have a picnic. The second phase of the Sandy Cove Park Riverbank Restoration project included "slope stabilization, erosion-control barbs, and native plantings, along with an improved Falls Avenue Entrance" (SnoqualmieWA.Gov website).

Materials

800 tons of 7-Man Quarry Rock
70 tons of 2-Man Streambed Rock

Highlights

Kapowsin Quarry specially produced oversized 7-Man Quarry Rock for this project. The rocks were drilled and used as anchors along the shoreline.

Washington Rock's 2-Man Streambed Boulders were also artistically installed around a new swimming cove.
