Riprap
Riprap
Product Description
Light Loose Riprap consists of a mix of large pieces of quarried rock that are free from defects like seams or cracks and material like rock fines. Sizing typically runs between 8″ and 16″ in diameter.
Our riprap meets the size requirements in WSDOT Standard Specifications 9-13.1(3). Our materials meet the tough specifications for armor rock set by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Within our product lineup, Light Loose Riprap is the next size up from our 4″–8″ Quarry Spalls and one size down from our Heavy Loose Riprap (0031-1).
Product Applications
Light Loose Riprap is used in flood control and riverbank stabilization. It can be used as a stream bank lining, on hillsides to protect slopes and control erosion, and as part of scour protection systems, which prevent erosion around marine structures.
Similar Products
Compared to Light Loose Riprap, our Heavy Loose Riprap (0031-1) contains a higher proportion of larger rock sizes.
We also offer Class 3 Riprap (0027-1), Class 4 Riprap (0033-1), and Class 5 Riprap (0039-1). Light Loose and Heavy Loose are state-spec combinations of these classifications. We are able to produce oversized quarried rock of many sizes.

About Riprap
Riprap generally refers to large stones used in breakwaters, sea walls, levees, embankments, and other marine structures. Each project has different requirements as to rock sizes. Riprap may be referred to by other names such as toe rock, shot rock, jetty stone, revetment stone, armor stone, core rock, underlayer stone, breakwater rock, etc.
Washington Rock’s riprap is the result of localized blasts that break apart large basalt deposits. Our riprap is made by dumping shot rock (i.e., dynamite-blasted basalt) into a hopper fitted with grizzly bars, which are heavy-duty bars spaced in such a way as to divide larger materials from smaller materials. Crushed rock measuring 8″ in diameter and smaller is sent to our main plant while larger crushed rock (riprap) is stockpiled.
