The Maple Valley Veterans Memorial was dedicated on Veterans Day today after ten years of planning and two years of construction.
The project was a labor of love made possible through community members.
Most of the project was financed by donations and a grant. But the project needed additional resources and momentum to take it to the finish line. Active Construction, Inc. (ACI) brought project management experience to the table and donated labor, equipment, and materials. ACI recruited subcontractors and suppliers who donated resources ranging from surveying services and traffic control to pavers and benches.
Donors included Zemek Construction, West Coast Signal, Northline Survey, HD Fowler, and PNW Masonry. Washington Rock Quarries contributed aggregates, and our longtime hauling partner Silver Streak donated the 80-mile roundtrips from our mine sites in Orting to the project site in Maple Valley.
Today’s dedication celebrated the power of community to bring projects like this to life. Over 100 community members came to watch the dedication, which included the raising of each of the military’s flags and a soulful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” by a bagpiper.
After the dedication concluded, attendees walked through the monument to get a closer look at the details and craftsmanship. It was the perfect way to mark Veterans Day.
Happy Veterans Day!
Thank you to ACI for inviting us to be part of this special project.
