Washington, D.C.—The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) awarded King Creek Pit of Washington Rock Quarries with the Bronze Award for Community Relations Excellence.
The NSSGA advocates for issues that impact the aggregates industry. According to the NSSGA, “Community Relations Excellence Awards recognize producers whose community involvement and support activities enhance the public’s perception of the aggregates industry and the individual producer’s operation.”
Each year, mining operations can apply for a community relations award by demonstrating how they connect with the community through social media, volunteer work, donations, special events, educational efforts, media relations, and advocacy efforts.
Washington Rock is a family business that operates two mines that work hand in hand: Kapowsin Quarry and King Creek Pit. Washington Rock’s Kapowsin Quarry won a Gold Award for Community Relations Excellence two years ago and will be recognized until 2027.
For our 2024 application, we highlighted some of the ways we connected to the community through events like Dozer Day (as seen in our video below) and the Puyallup Farmer’s Market, social media, and contributions to important community causes.
We also highlighted the stories we shared through our blog, the videos we published to YouTube, the projects we photographed, and the photos we shared of our operations on social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
