Product Description
Manufactured Sand is a coarse 100% fractured sand. It’s an angular, washed sand that maxes out at the #4 sieve size (0.187 inches in diameter) and typically contains 1–2% fines.

Under a microscope, the granules in Manufactured Sand appear cornflake-shaped. The shape leads to mildly higher compressive strength compared to naturally occurring sand, whose rounded granules have a tendency to roll away under pressure.

Manufactured Sand is a non-spec specialty product. Limited quantities are available based on production demands.

Product Applications
Manufactured Sand is an excellent option for making strong concrete. It binds well and has mildly higher compressive strength compared to naturally occurring sand.

Some horse arena clients also prefer Manufactured Sand to other sands because it packs down like gravel, creating a hybrid between the compressive strength of gravel and the fineness of sand.

About Manufactured Sand
The word “manufactured” refers to the fact that this sand is made by machine and isn’t naturally occurring. Washington Rock’s manufactured sand is made by crushing rocks mined at our sand and gravel pit. Manufactured sand is an angular sand whereas naturally occurring sand tends to be rounded due to abrasion and weathering by water and wind.
