National Miner’s Day is on December 6. Washington Rock celebrates this occasion with a message from our founder, Harry Hart. This year he reflects on 30 years in business.
In just a few months, Washington Rock Quarries will turn 30 years old. Today, Washington Rock is a growing company with 70 team members. It has been an eventful journey getting to this point.
Team members who have been with us from the beginning might remember that we started with one screen and a single loader. We made only four products: riprap, 2”–4” quarry spalls, 4”–8” quarry spalls, and 1¼” minus.
Success didn’t come quickly. Most people were working 12-hour days, 6 days a week, driving toward making Washington Rock successful.
There were a few times, like during the recession in 2008, when it was difficult to survive and keep team members busy.
Now here we are at the end of 2019, having sold over 2 million tons of material—the most ever produced in a single year. We increased our yearly sales again this year and hope to do the same in 2020.
There are many factors that make a company successful. One of the most important is having good people. Over time, our team has steadily grown. Each and every one of these team members has contributed to Washington Rock’s success, whether they were shoveling under a belt, fixing a broken loader for the hundredth time, or giving a sales pitch to a golf course.
Each and every team member matters, and the success of the company belongs to all of us.
— Harry
