Helpful Tips

  • Our minimum order for delivery is 10 cubic yards or 15 tons.
  • We are typically 3–5 days out for delivery.
  • The delivery window is approximately 4 hours.
    • Morning: 8 AM–12 PM
    • Afternoon: 12 PM–4 PM
  • Pricing is approximate. The final price is based on the truck’s weight when loaded, and tax is calculated for your delivery address.
  • We accept checks made payable to Washington Rock Quarries, which must be given to the driver upon delivery. We also accept debit cards and credit cards taken over the phone at the time of scheduling. Your card will not be run until delivery has been made.

How to Prepare for Delivery

  • Do any ground prep work prior to delivery.
  • Make sure vehicles are moved away from the drop-off area.
  • Lay out a tarp where you would like the material dumped.
  • If you are not able to be present at time of delivery, clearly mark the area where you want the material left.

King Creek Pit is a sand and gravel pit that produces soil, sand, and rounded aggregates like pea gravel, drain rock, and river rock. The rounded rock is sometimes crushed into gravel products like ¾” Clean and 3/8″ Minus.

Kapowsin Quarry is a basalt quarry where we produce crushed rock products like driveway gravel and landscape rock.

When you arrive on the mine site, check in at the scale house, which is a mobile trailer. Pull on to the scale at the far side of the building. The scale attendant will take down your information and direct you to the correct location to be loaded. Once loaded, return to the scale house to be re-weighed and pay for your load.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Will the delivery driver spread the material?

A: Once on site, the driver will determine whether they can safely perform a tailgate spread. If they can, they will try to spread as evenly as possible, but there are no guarantees. It is up to you to finish spreading material to achieve the desired look. If you need additional help, consider contacting a landscaping company or a grading contractor.

Q: Can I mix materials in one load to make a minimum 15-ton delivery?

A: No, there is no way to divide the truck to accommodate more than one material.

Q: Why won’t you deliver an order that’s less than 10 cubic yards?

A: We require a minimum of 10 cubic yards because our smallest dump truck size holds 10 cubic yards. We need to maximize the volume that our contracted truckers haul each day to ensure they can pay for the cost of maintaining and operating their vehicles while still making a fair wage.

The good news is that we supply many local landscape supply yards who have 5-yard dump trucks and can accommodate smaller orders.

Q: Why is delivery so expensive?

A: We strive to price our materials as fairly as possible, taking in every aspect of the mining process: permitting, blasting, fuel, equipment purchases, equipment maintenance, payroll, contractors’ fees, and more. When you know that something like a single tire for a wheel loader can cost thousands of dollars, it’s easier to understand the cost of mined materials.

Now add delivery costs on top of that. We contract with haulers in the community. The farther they have to travel, the more we pay them. Delivery fees cover transportation costs and the time that haulers might otherwise spend hauling extra loads.

Q: Can the driver place the material in more than one area?

A: Once the tailgate is open, the driver cannot close it and move to another area to drop the remaining material.

Q: Can I pay cash to the driver?

A: We are a cashless company. We accept checks or cards.

Q: Can I pick up material myself?

A:  Yes! Our minimum fee for each load is $75. We load vehicles using a large loader, so a truck and/or trailer is required. Please note that we do not load large materials into pickup trucks, including quarry spalls, landscape rocks, and boulders. You must have a trailer or dump truck to be loaded with these materials. Be sure to have proper equipment to secure your materials, such as tarps, tie-down straps, etc.

Please note that 3% is added to credit card payments to cover our card processing fee.

Q: Where do I go to pick up material?

A: We have two mine sites: King Creek Pit and Kapowsin Quarry. Check out our visitors’ guide for more information.

Q: Do I need an appointment to pick up material?

A: Not unless you are picking up large boulders (Two-Man Landscape Rock and larger). We need 2–3 days’ notice to ensure the boulders are readily available. It’s also a good idea to call ahead and make sure the material you want is in stock.

Q: Can I load my own material into bags or buckets?

A: No. Once you’re on the mine site, you cannot exit your vehicle due to MSHA (federal agency) regulations.

Q: How late are you open?

A: The mine sites are open from 6 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and seasonally on Saturdays from 6 AM to 12 PM. The corporate office is open from 8 AM to 4 PM on weekdays only. Please check our website for Saturday hours as they may change.

We recommend arriving on the mine site after 8 AM as the mine sites are very dark early in the morning. We do not load boulders or landscape rocks before 8 AM.

When you are picking up material, please be in the pit no later than 15 minutes before closing or 30 minutes before closing for large boulders. This will ensure you have enough time to get loaded and scale out before closing time.

Q: Can I have samples sent to me before I decide what I want?

A: We do not send samples in the mail. If you are local, we welcome you to come in and see samples of different materials. Call the sales office before visiting to give us time to prepare your samples.
